Honors Indigenous Art of the Past, Present, and Future
Fayetteville, N.C. – The Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County is excited to open its latest exhibit, Redefining Indigenous. Curated by John Whittemore, this exhibit spotlights the rich and evolving narratives of Native American life within our region. The selected works explore living in the modern world while honoring ancestors and preparing the next generations.
The exhibit will feature 28 different artists representing various generations and tribes across the state and east coast. By showcasing the works of these artists, "Redefining Indigenous" provides a unique opportunity for the public to engage with evolving narratives and artistic expressions that honor ancestral heritage while reflecting contemporary realities.
“I’m most excited to see the different stories and ideas and moments told through the works that give a deeper detail in the indigenous experience of this modern time," expressed Whittemore.
The Arts Council invites the public to attend the opening reception for Redefining Indigenous on November 1st from 6-8pm. The reception will include light refreshments and live performances by Magic Gomez and Smokey River Singers. The exhibit will be on display in the Arts Council’s gallery until November 29th.
