SUMMARY:
The Satellite CDL Driver is responsible for the safe and compliant transportation of petroleum products from terminal locations to customer sites and company accounts using company-owned or company-insured vehicles. Unlike traditional CDL drivers operating from the bulk plant, satellite drivers work remotely out of designated fuel terminals and are dispatched independently. This position requires strong self-management, adherence to DOT regulations, and strict compliance with Gaines Oil Company’s safety, delivery, and customer service standards.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent (required)
3-5 Years Previous Experience in the Petroleum/Fuel Delivery Industry (required)
Valid CDL Class A or B (required)
Current HazMat and Tanker Endorsements (required)
Must pass pre-employment and routine MVR (Motor Vehicle Report) screenings
TWIC card and valid DOT medical card (required or must be obtained)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety & Compliance
- Operate vehicles in full compliance with DOT, federal, state, and local laws, and Gaines Oil Company policies.
- Conduct daily pre- and post-trip inspections; report and document all issues or maintenance needs promptly.
- Follow all defensive driving and safety protocols, including PPE use and adherence to terminal safety rules.
- Maintain current credentials including CDL, DOT medical card, TWIC, and required endorsements.
- Report any incidents, safety concerns, or violations immediately to the Director of Transportation.
Terminal & Delivery Operations
- Load petroleum products safely and efficiently at assigned terminals following all terminal-specific procedures.
- Verify product type, quantity, and documentation prior to leaving the terminal.
- Deliver petroleum products to customer sites in accordance with company schedules and customer requirements.
- Ensure accurate completion of delivery logs, inspection forms, and electronic or paper tickets.
- Coordinate closely with dispatch and logistics personnel to manage load assignments and delivery timing.
- Operate with minimal supervision, maintaining consistent communication with dispatch via approved devices.
Communication & Professionalism
- Maintain consistent communication with the Transportation Manager and dispatch team regarding route progress, delays, or issues.
- Accurately relay delivery information, product discrepancies, or customer feedback to management.
- Uphold Gaines Oil Company’s standards of customer service, professionalism, and reliability.
- Present a clean and professional appearance in uniform and while representing the company at customer and terminal locations.
WORK FLEXIBILITY & SCHEDULE:
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency response operations as needed.
- Must be comfortable working independently and managing time efficiently to meet delivery demands.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

- Proficient in completing delivery documentation accurately and on time.
- Familiar with fuel terminal operations and procedures preferred.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence, i.e. documented mileages, fuel amounts, etc.
- Strong communication skills and customer service orientation.
- Must speak fluent English.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Must have proficiency in basic math skills.
REASONING ABILITY:
The individual must be able to make independent decisions while considering variables in situations on a regular basis. The ability to make crucial operating decisions while multi-tasking is required for this position.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee regularly works outdoors and is exposed to varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and wind. Work frequently takes place at fuel terminals, on public roadways, and at customer delivery sites, where exposure to petroleum products, fumes, and terminal noise may occur. The noise level in the work environment can range from moderate to high depending on the location and type of equipment in use. Satellite CDL Drivers should be comfortable working independently in these environments while adhering to all required safety and PPE standards.
